We work with artists of all diciplines and help them launch and sustain their careers. Our monthly newsletter features exhibit and performance opportunities, access to grants, interesting websites, community events, and discounted supplies and services. Greater Flint Arts Council also assists small grass roots arts agencies and large established arts agencies by providing rehearsal, storage and meeting space, loaned equipment, publicity, consulting services, mailing lists, and fundraising expertise. We also help link agencies together to partner and collaborate on various projects. Our Parade of Festivals Program jointly markets 15 festivals, several produced by the Greater Flint Arts Council, attracting tens of thousands of people to Flint each year. We have also been a big part of the downtown redevelopment efforts in Flint. Arts and culture can impact communities economically, as they contribute millions to our area economy, create jobs, and attract businesses to our vibrant and diverse community. |
Art is the only thing you can’t punch a button for. You must do it the old –fashioned way. Stay up and really burn the midnight oil. There are no compromises -Leonytne Price.
Greater Flint Arts Council has launched our new comprehensive programs and events website for Genesee County at www.geneseefun.com. This has changed the way GFAC will promote programs and events. For more information about this site, please send email to our coordinator, Sheila Fales: sheila@geneseefun.com.
Thus, the time you have all been waiting for has come. We have renovated and updated our website at www.greaterflintartscouncil.org in a format that is easy to maintain. I am sure you will enjoy visiting this site and finding it up to date with current information about Greater Flint Arts Council. Many thanks go to GFAC member, Kofi Brown for making this possible.
For those of you who enjoyed my monthly series about GFAC entitled ARTS COUNCIL 101, you can now access each of the 9 articles at the www.greaterflintartscouncil.org site.
We are asking all GFAC member artists who have websites or blogs to send us your URLs so we can add your link to our ARTISTS GALLERY at www.greaterflintartscouncil.org.
The two sites are connected with links and you can easily breeze from the information site (www.greaterflintartscouncil.org) to the events site (geneseefun.com) and back again by clicking the appropriate icons on their respective home pages.
We have also added some new features to our email program. We now have a new email address for you to share your activities with us: news@greaterflintartscouncil.org. Please use that email for items which you would like to see published in our Where’s Art publications. We also have a new email address for you to communicate with the front office staff: gfac@greaterflintartscouncil.org.
As before, you can communicate directly with Greg and Cathy at:
greg@greaterflintartscouncil.org
cathy@greaterflintartscouncil.org
We look forward to hearing from you. Please do not add us to your SPAM list!
Best Always!

The focus of the Community Cultural Plan in 2008 has been communication. With generous funding from the Ruth Mott Foundation and hard work by the Community Cultural Planning Facilitation Team, we were able to purchase the “Artsopolis” internet program from the Arts Council of Silicon Valley, San Jose, California. We have created a comprehensive events web site for Genesee County at www.geneseefun.com. At geneseefun.com organizations in Genesee County can post their events themselves by making a choice on the home page and filling out an online form. Within 24 hours their event will appear on the website. We are one of only 13 cities throughout the United States participating in this project.
Geneseefun.com is already live, however it’s sophistication will increase with time as we keep adding options to it. Some of the features we anticipate are the ability to get information on the presenting artists, purchase tickets (already available with some events), and weekend entertainment packages. We expect geneseefun.com to improve your ability to find out what is happening in our county and boost attendance at events with those from within Genesee County as well as those traveling here from outside Genesee County.
For information about arts and cultural events and sports events go to geneseefun.com! Please tell your friends. Word of mouth is still at the top of advertising statistics.

We convened committees of stakeholders--local arts agency representatives, funders, business and community people-- to create a plan to create, increase and sustain arts and cultural activities and entities. The planning portion of this project is finished and we are now in the implementation phase. The Community Cultural Plan has generated new funding for small arts agencies and arts projects through a mini grant program and will help develop wider audiences for area arts and culture events through an interactive web site. This website will help increase awareness of arts and culture events in the area, make it easier for people to purchase tickets and will link arts and culture events with area businesses such as hotels and restaurants. |
